Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

by Annie 16. December 2016 08:34

It’s that time of year again and yet again, we can't believe another year has come and gone. Though we had a great one, we are constantly reminded on how important it is to sometimes slow down and appreciate the days we get. Every year, the office does a collective Toy Drive for the Salvation Army. This year was no different and our toy drive was a big success. We filled up Geoff and Brian’s trucks and they went downtown to the Cleveland Salvation Army headquarters to drop everything off. Upwards of 60% percent of our toys consisted of basketballs, soccer balls, and footballs as if Cleveland wasn’t already full of enough crazy sports fans. The toys are always fun to shop for and a really good reminder that giving is better than receiving.

We’re grateful for all of our customers, partners, and colleagues within the textile and manufacturing industry and outside of it. MMI would not be where it is today without all of you and we can’t express how much gratitude we have. Don’t hesitate for one second to reach out whenever you need anything or just to check-in.

We hope your holidays are restful and full of time with your loved ones and wish you a 2017 that brings health, safety, and happiness. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year from the MMI team!

Onwards and Upwards!

by Annie 30. November 2016 14:26

The MMI Textiles Team has been growing in strength and numbers. We’re excited to announce a handful of new team members and a promotion.Geoff Senko has been promoted to Regional Sales Manager. This promotion is a result of Geoff’s six years as a cornerstone of the MMI sales team. He has been a huge part of our success over the years and we are grateful to have him. He will continue servicing all his customers as he takes on the new role.

Additionally, we have hired 3 new team members over the past 3 months.

Andrew Joyce joined the management team in October. He joins as our new Global Business Manager. Andrew brings 25 years of sales and business experience from outside the industry to bring a fresh perspective and will help MMI continue its steady growth. He is a native Australian who married a Clevelander with a true love of his adopted city.  We are excited to add him to our team!

Christine Campbell joined the team at the beginning of November as our Office Assistant. She is quickly making friends around the office as she offers to help with just about anything. Not to mention she loves Cleveland sports, so she fit in VERY quickly.

Last, but certainly not least, Lisa Lewis has been working with the team as our newest Customer Service Representative. She is quickly learning the ropes and helping in all the areas she can. We hope to officially bring her on to the team full-time at the end of the month!

As always, we are grateful to have a growing team. These changes are exciting and we couldn’t be happier. Onwards and upwards!

CTEdge™: The Solution You’ve Been Waiting For

by Annie 17. November 2016 08:55

MMI Textiles, Inc. is a solutions-based industrial fabric company. If you are having a problem related to any of your fabrics, fasteners, or components – then we can help. Whether we can provide you with an actual product or we can connect you with someone who has that element you are looking for, we’ll do the leg work for you.  And that’s where our new product – THE CTEdge™ comes in. This solution-based technology is featured in both our printed MultiCam® binding tape and webbing so that we can alleviate the issue that some members of our armed forces and tactical customers are facing, typically referred to as the “white edge”.

The CTEdge™ is created using patent-pending technology that gives the edge of the fabric a more concealed edge because it is woven with different color threads. It allows the edge to blend in much more with MultiCam® behind it or another military-colored fabric.

CTEdge™ Webbing

We offer our exclusive CTEdge™ in both A-A-55301 and Mil-W-17337. It is also available in OCP by contract basis only. This product is often used in bags, vests, MOLLE systems, and other tactical gear. The following widths are available in Mil-W-17337: ¾” 1”, 1.5”, 2” 3”. To inquire on A-A-55301, please call the MMI office.

CTEdge™ Binding Tape

Same thing here – our exclusive binding tape comes with patent-pending CTEdge™ that meets Mil-T-5038. This product is stocked and available in ¾” and 1”.

The picture above, a Crye Percision™ product, is created with MMI’s materials. The tape and webbing used on it are the CTEdge™ product and a close-up shot of the concealed edge can be seen below. Additionally, the vest is made with our loop and elastic. Last but not least, zipper is now a part of our new printed narrow line, too and we have stock in #5 and #9.

For more information on the CTEdge™ solution – check out our dedicated webpage. If you want samples or information on current stock, give us a call at the number below or shoot us an email.

The Future Workforce -- a great read!

by Annie 2. November 2016 15:27

The future of the fabric industry is a serious subject -- and luckily, it seems like people are beginning to talk about it. In the October issue of Specialty Fabrics Review in an article titled, The Future of the Workforce, the author brings to lights how crucial it is to support the existence of these jobs and to encourage and nurture young individuals to pursue these kinds of trades. Without individuals who have welding and sewing skills, the industry will struggle to survive.

The article touches on how textile manufacturer's need sewers and sewers need opportunities that lead to fulfilling careers. The two must be merged successfully to keep the industry growing. The partnership between IFAI (Industrial Fabrics Association International) and the Makers Coalition are trying to do just that. Our owner, Amy Bircher, is committed to helping this process where she can. As chair of the Industrial Fabrics Foundation (IFF) which committed $120,000 to the Makers Division program over the next two years Amy says, "The decision to fund this program was very easy. The foundation stands for education, innovation, and development within our industry. This comes at a time when the industry is growing, manufacturing jobs are coming back and the need for professional development couldn't be greater. The vocations of sewing and welding - the kinds of things that are used in a manufacturing shop for finished products - hardly exist anymore."

We love seeing programs like this one being supported throughout the industry and enjoy taking the time to mention how much bringing jobs back to the United States means to us as a company.

Another exciting year at IFAI EXPO 2016!

by Annie 27. October 2016 09:01

And another year at the IFAI EXPO is under our belt! We kicked off our biggest show of the year last week with a bang, bringing in a new booth and nine team members for the 2016 show in Charlotte, NC. There is no doubt that getting together with all of our industry family is one of our favorite things – and it's the one thing that hasn’t changed since we started exhibiting at IFAI EXPO many years ago.

This year at the show, we debuted a new hanging sign, a new booth design, and some bright blue carpet. In addition, three members of our growing team got to experience the show for the first time. Some of the things that we showed off in our booth this year:

1.       MultiCam® Printed Narrow Fabrics

We have been talking about this stuff all summer long because we are that excited about. We have six different variations of this line – all in MultiCam®. This line highlights our commitment to the military industry as it features the MMI-created patent-patent pending CTEdge™. In addition, we can print patterns and logos on narrow fabrics of practically all kinds.

2.       Coated Aramid Thread

This thread is really strong – no joke. It is comparable to the strength of a bolt. Our thread is recommended for use where exposure to moisture, abrasion, environmental contaminants or cut-hazard would be likely to cause failure in traditional threads of equal size.  Some of its features are:

·         Non-Absorbent

·         100% wet strength after 6 months’ immersion in sea water

·         High break strength (80 lbs in size 138)

·         High abrasion resistance

·         High UV resistance (approx. 30% strength loss after two years’ exposure)

·         High resistance to solvents, bleach and hydrocarbons

3.       Fabric, lots of it!

Shocker, right? Well, we highlighted a few of our favorite this year – but we have so many options. I’ll save you from reading the entire list but whether it is 200D polyester, 1050D ballistic nylon, or a custom ripstop to foam lamination – we have you covered. Our robust line up of woven fabrics coupled with our ability to also provide webbing, hook and loop, labels, zipper, knits, elastic, cord, and tape makes us a cut above the rest.

As we get ready to welcome in the holiday season and closeout 2016, IFAI EXPO is always one of our favorite memories. And if we missed you at our booth this year, don’t worry. We would love to chat and find out how we can help you. Just shoot us an email at info@mmitextiles.com or call us at 440-899-8050.

AUSA 2016 Recap

by Annie 6. October 2016 09:52

The MMI team traveled to Washington, DC for the annual AUSA Expo and annual meeting. One of our favorite shows of the year, the 2016 show was no different. During the expo, we got to be a part of IFAI’s booth space and had a great time. Being members of the Industrial Fabrics Association International allows us many benefits, including getting a chance to exhibit at AUSA which we are grateful for.

As you may know, we take our relationship with the military and tactical industry very seriously. So when we get the chance to come together with a lot of members of that industry, we get pretty excited. We got to show off and tell people about our new line of MultiCam® and OCP printed narrow fabrics. There are similar products to the one MMI now offers but the differences and benefit to MMI’s are significant.

MMI’s webbing and binding tape offer the patent-pending CTEdge™. This advanced edge design gets rid of the glaring white edge that many would notice when the webbing and tape were used in vests, bags, and more. The CTEdge™ conceals the white edge, making it blend much more than any previous versions of this webbing and tape.

In addition to the advanced webbing and tape, the line also offers zipper, elastic, and woven loop. All of these products meet military specs and are Berry compliant. While this new line is what we are most recently talking about the most – we’re able to offering lots of different products to the manufacturers of military products. Things like mil-spec webbing, berry compliant hardware, hook and loop, and elastic are all options that we can provide solutions to for military applications and end uses.

After a successful AUSA 2016 and an upcoming IFAI Expo 2016 (come see us at Booth #A1035) – the MMI team is busy and excited for it all. If you missed us in Washington DC, don’t fret – we’ll get the chance to talk our new printed narrow line with you or anything else on your mind. Call our team at 440-899-8050 or shoot us an email at info@mmitextiles.com

MMI now offering MultiCam® Printed Loop

by Annie 8. September 2016 10:12

9/8/2016 --- As a part of their new printed narrow fabrics line, MMI Textiles, Inc. is now offering printed loop in both MultiCam® and OCP. MMI is responding to a need within the industry for printed loop and now after approval, the product is available for sale. It is the only printed woven loop that is made to A-A-55126 available in the market, and has excellent quality and resolution.

It’s just one of the many products within their new line. After announcing a partnership with Mikan Printing in May, the company rolled out a line of printed webbing, binding tape, loop, elastic, and zipper. Most of these are currently in stock in MultiCam® pattern, with MultiCam® Alpine®, Arid, Black and Tropic patterns being developed in the coming weeks. OCP is being printed on various materials as needed and by government contract only.  Samples are available from MMI by request.

These materials are 100% Berry Compliant and created with patent-pending technology that gives the usual “white-edge” much more of a concealed appearance.

This news illustrates MMI’s on-going commitment to serve the military and tactical industries. For any inquiries or interest in samples, call MMI at 440-899-8050 or email them at info@mmitextiles.com.

What You Need to Make Safety Vests

by Annie 25. August 2016 12:15

Different kinds of fabrics and textiles that are used in an industrial setting are versatile and important. One thing that MMI has a lot of experience with is safety vests. We can provide you with the materials to make the entire thing whether it’s a vest, some sort of backpack, or anything in that arena. We can help with getting you the raw materials as well as helping and referring you to the right spot to get vests like these made.  Whether you need a construction vest, a vest used for crossing guards or traffic directors, or something for runners to wear late at night – we have seen it all. Here are some great things that you might need if your making any products like this one:

Mesh

The options are numerous here – we have mesh in many colors, including all the bright colors needed in the any kind of safety product. We have spacer mesh, too if you were looking for something a little more padded.

Reflective Fabric

Obviously, this is crucial when it comes to this kind of stuff. All the reflective fabric can be attached and/or laminated to the kind of product you are having made.

Labels

Labels on vests or any product for that matter are important. Whether it be a small tag label or a large square label to go on the front, you want to make sure you have the right name being displayed.

Tape and Webbing

Whether you need some to attach the hardware to, straps the connect to vest, or just tape to bind to the edges of the vest then we have you covered.

Hardware and Hook + Loop

Need your best to buckle in the front? Need something to attach the buckles to? We got it! Plastic hardware is a great option for these and we have practically every option in the book. If you were looking to fasten your vest some hook and loop, we’ll be able to help there, too. We have VELCRO® Brand as well as MMI brand hook and loop so we will be able to fit your needs.

These are the kinds of end products and projects that MMI Textiles, Inc. is awesome at helping with because we have so many solutions to help customers get all that they need in one place, talking to one person. Call us with questions or any concerns you might have!

What It Means to be Made in the USA

by Annie 9. August 2016 09:50

We’ve been watching the Olympics non-stop over here at MMI. Gymnastics, swimming, archery, table tennis, you name it and we’re practically “experts”. It’s such a great time every four years and we’re grateful for how it brings us together within the office, not even to mention how it brings us together with the rest of the globe. We love cheering on our home red, white, and blue and it definitely has us thinking about what it means to be “Made in the USA”.

MMI Textiles offers a lot of different products that are “Made in the USA”. Depending on what it is and the kinds of specifications that it needs to have, we often refer to it as domestic or if it’s a military fabric or component, we may refer to it as Berry compliant – which you can read more about here.

Manufacturing goods that are Made in the USA means more than what it might look like on paper. For us – it means we are staying true to our history and staying true to the industry that helped MMI become what it is today. Our history reaches back all the way to 1932 when National Dye Works was started in downtown Chicago, and continued through 1980 when it was first purchased by the Bircher family, and then in 2007 when it was purchased by MMI Textiles, Inc. A long history – traveling through Chicago, IL, Lynchburg, SC, reaching through the Midwest, and now headquartered in Cleveland, OH with ties throughout the entire country.

We manufacturer, convert, and distribute goods based on customer needs and many times that need is wanting goods Made in the USA for the same reasons that we like offering them. We are proud of the fact that we can help support jobs and supporting businesses that are growing within the United States, just like our customers and partners support our growing business.

It's for those reasons that we love to talk about how many things we can offer that are made right here in the United States. In case you were immediately curious, here's a brief list of some of our fabrics and components that can be made within the USA:

It is also important to note that if you are thinking about bringing any kind of production back to the USA, starting new production in the USA, or trying to figure out if it’s even possible – we’d love to help. We’re waving our flags high as we cheer on our team in Rio, hoping to carry that momentum in many more corners of our country.

*It's important to note that Berry Compliancy is different from something being "Made in the USA" - here's something to read on the Berry Amendment and this is what it takes for something to be considered Made in the USA
