Introducing Our 2025 Summer Interns

At MMI Textiles, we are proud to welcome our 2025 summer interns, a talented group of students who are gaining hands-on experience while learning from our dedicated team. Rooted in our core values of gratitude, respect, active learning, continuous improvement, and enthusiasm, our internship program is designed to foster both personal and professional growth in a collaborative environment.

Let’s get to know our new team members and see what they have been up to so far this summer:

Calvin Dennis

Originally from Medina, Ohio, Calvin is a rising junior at the University of Akron, studying Computer Science and Applied Mathematics. This summer, he’s putting his skills to work on the IT/Development team at MMI Textiles, where he's been focused on deploying Tableau to help unify data analytics across the company. The project has given him the chance to connect classroom learning with practical experience, especially in areas like debugging and enhancing the user experience.

When he’s not at work, Calvin enjoys spending time outdoors, whether fishing on Lake Erie or exploring local parks and trails. He’s made the most of the summer both professionally and personally. Reflecting on his experience so far, he shared:

“It is truly a unique environment that promotes learning, respect, ingenuity, and collaboration. The team has made MMI feel like a second family, and I’m thrilled to continue to grow both personally and professionally throughout the summer.”

Mikyla Ruhland

Mikyla has joined us this summer from Asheville, North Carolina, where she studies Textile Engineering and Business at North Carolina State University. As she heads into her junior year, she’s spending her break with the New Product Development team at MMI, bringing curiosity, creativity, and a love for innovation to everything she does.

She’s embraced the variety of each day through assisting with lab equipment, coding internal systems, or testing out the golf simulator. Her favorite project so far has been researching conductive textiles for military applications, where tech and textiles collide. As Mikyla puts it:

“It’s been really cool to see the potential when you combine AI with wearable electronics. I honestly think this could lead to some seriously powerful tech, kind of like a real life Black Panther suit!”

When she’s not at MMI, you can find Mikyla enjoying roller skating, swimming, and soaking up the summer sun along the lakeside trails.

Marissa Wammes

Marissa, a rising junior at Ohio Northern University joins us from Fremont, Ohio, where she’s pursuing a degree in Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Business. She’s spending her summer working with MMI’s Sales and Marketing team, actively contributing to projects across both departments.

In her first few weeks, Marissa has gained a first-hand perspective of the sales process, worked closely with mentors, and supported projects ranging from website design to customer engagement strategies. Her favorite project so far has been preparing to pitch products to MMI’s medical customers, giving her a chance to connect her education with real-world applications.

Outside of the office, Marissa enjoys soaking up the summer near Lake Erie, on the water or relaxing with friends and family. She has also loved exploring Cleveland alongside her fellow interns. Reflecting on her experience, she shares:

“MMI has been an amazing experience, and I can only see it getting better. The overall atmosphere of the office, staff, and company is unmatched; it’s truly something special to be a part of.”

Joshua Hammond

Josh, a Cleveland native and rising junior at North Carolina State University, is studying Textile Engineering and spending his summer building practical skills with the Warehouse team at MMI Textiles. In just a few weeks, he’s worked on a variety of projects—from cutting Ursack bags and Multicam patches to experimenting with new machinery that expands MMI’s production capabilities.

One of his favorite projects so far has been cutting Tegris components for a collaboration with BMW, which will be assembled into luggage carriers for the back of their motorcycles. “It’s pretty neat to think about how the parts I’m working on will end up on high-end bikes out on the road,” he shares.

Outside of work, Josh enjoys golfing and spending time on the water, making the most of the summer weather. Reflecting on his time at MMI so far, he says:

“MMI Textiles is where innovation meets integrity, delivering trusted textile solutions with unmatched expertise and a commitment to quality.”

Over the past few weeks, our interns have embraced our values by working alongside mentors, taking initiative on meaningful projects, and engaging in both professional and team-building activities. Some activities they have indulged in include attending a Guardian’s game, taking a tour of the Glenn Research Center and participating in a fundraiser for the Effective Leadership Academy at a Cleveland favorite, Happy Dog!

We’re excited to see how they continue to grow and contribute throughout the summer!
