What It Means to be Made in the USA

by Annie 9. August 2016 09:50

We’ve been watching the Olympics non-stop over here at MMI. Gymnastics, swimming, archery, table tennis, you name it and we’re practically “experts”. It’s such a great time every four years and we’re grateful for how it brings us together within the office, not even to mention how it brings us together with the rest of the globe. We love cheering on our home red, white, and blue and it definitely has us thinking about what it means to be “Made in the USA”.

MMI Textiles offers a lot of different products that are “Made in the USA”. Depending on what it is and the kinds of specifications that it needs to have, we often refer to it as domestic or if it’s a military fabric or component, we may refer to it as Berry compliant – which you can read more about here.

Manufacturing goods that are Made in the USA means more than what it might look like on paper. For us – it means we are staying true to our history and staying true to the industry that helped MMI become what it is today. Our history reaches back all the way to 1932 when National Dye Works was started in downtown Chicago, and continued through 1980 when it was first purchased by the Bircher family, and then in 2007 when it was purchased by MMI Textiles, Inc. A long history – traveling through Chicago, IL, Lynchburg, SC, reaching through the Midwest, and now headquartered in Cleveland, OH with ties throughout the entire country.

We manufacturer, convert, and distribute goods based on customer needs and many times that need is wanting goods Made in the USA for the same reasons that we like offering them. We are proud of the fact that we can help support jobs and supporting businesses that are growing within the United States, just like our customers and partners support our growing business.

It's for those reasons that we love to talk about how many things we can offer that are made right here in the United States. In case you were immediately curious, here's a brief list of some of our fabrics and components that can be made within the USA:

It is also important to note that if you are thinking about bringing any kind of production back to the USA, starting new production in the USA, or trying to figure out if it’s even possible – we’d love to help. We’re waving our flags high as we cheer on our team in Rio, hoping to carry that momentum in many more corners of our country.

*It's important to note that Berry Compliancy is different from something being "Made in the USA" - here's something to read on the Berry Amendment and this is what it takes for something to be considered Made in the USA

3 Proven Ways to Get the Fabric You're Looking For

by Annie 24. February 2016 09:30

We have seen it all when it comes to trying to source and buy fabric for projects. Whether it is a tactical project, a commercial project, a medical project, or something totally different – we can help. It can be overwhelming and sometimes just plain exhausting to spend time trying to find exactly what you need and we want to avoid that at all costs. Our fabric experts have heard all the questions and in most cases found all the answers so I asked around and found out the best tips they have for someone who is trying to find the best fabric for their project.

Be specific.

If you know exactly what color, kind, and weight of the fabric you need then let whoever you are working with know. It can make the process much quicker if you cut to chase and give the nitty gritty details of the fabric you need. If you aren’t sure, that’s okay, too! You can still be specific by describing the project you need the fabric, hardware, or other component for. It’s also important to know if there is any special qualities like fire resistance or berry compliancy that you need the fabric to be.

Ask for samples.

Our office is filled with samples. They are literally everywhere. And we have them so that we can send them out to people just like you who are looking to find something that works. Our team is extra experienced at getting fabrics out quickly and then following up with you. So if you let us know something you are interested in seeing and feeling than we can get it to you ASAP! After you get the samples…

Ask questions.

Yep, ask away. It’s better for all parties involved if you ask questions about everything. You can see our most frequently asked questions, right here. Lead times, costs, and where it is coming from are all important things that you deserve to know. Any question that provides value to you if worth asking and we want to make sure we cover all our bases. Call as many times as you need and keep in mind that you making sure you are as knowledgeable about the process as you want to be if the focus. Whether it’s email or phone calls, ask as many questions as you want.

After doing these three things, it’s up to whoever you are communicating with to do the rest. Once we get all the necessary information, we can conduct our most thorough search to find the product you want. When dealing with MMI, things are a little easier because we have a lot of stock options and an incredible network of sources that we can contact to get the right thing. Our 19 years of experience comes in handy. If you are new to the textile world, then welcome and I hope these tips are helpful! On the contrary, if are seasoned in the industry then I hope these are a good reminder. Our MMI team is standing by help, so as usual feel free to call at 440.899.8050 or shoot us an email at info@mmitextiles.com

MMI Attends SHOT Show 2016

by Debbie 26. January 2016 15:10

Another year of SHOT Show is under our belt. The MMI team traveled to Las Vegas for the annual show focusing on all things shooting, hunting, and outdoors. We enjoy coming together with people from our industry, learning new things, and getting to tell the rest of the world about the exciting things going on in the MMI offices. Not to mention, getting out of Cleveland in January is not something we usually pass up.  This year at SHOT, we focused on showing off a few different things including:

Wolf Gray
Unequal® Military
PenCott™ Camo
Our vast line of military fabrics

All of these things are widely popular throughout the industry and we were even able to spot a few items at SHOT Show 2016 that we had a hand in producing. These boots were made with PenCott™ Camouflage that we provided. It's pretty exciting for us to see end products that we had a part of like these boots. Additionally, we can provide hardware, labels, and rope and cord

If we didn’t get the chance to see you at SHOT, we would love the opportunity to get the chance to talk with you about the new, exciting, and innovative things happening at MMI Textiles, Inc
. As you may know, our first priority is customer service and getting you the best product as quickly and as simply as possible. Call us at 440.899.8050 or shoot us an email at info@mmitextiles.com to get in touch or find out how we can help you.

by Annie 26. August 2015 15:38

Webbing is a big deal in the textile industry and the MMI team knows that. With many varieties of webbing and tape, it can be hard to figure out exactly what you need. And that’s where we come in. We make it our job to find you the webbing that will fit your needs for the end product you are making.

All of our military webbing is 100% Berry Compliant (domestically produced) – our commercial and military product offerings include:

Polypropylene – large stock color selection – imported

Polyester – Domestic and Imported (many stock colors on binding tape)
Strap Assemblies – Domestic and Imported
Cotton webbing - Import color selection available

In addition, we also offer a number of other binding tapes and mil-spec webbing. Our selection of these kinds of fabrics is robust. The best way to find out the specific kinds we have is to give us a call. As mentioned above, MMI is proud of the fact that all of our military products are made in the USA.

One thing that sets MMI apart is our commercial offerings. We offer an assortment of stock products as well as custom run goods to the customer’s specifications. Not to mention, we can digital print on nylon or poly webbing.  Our knowledgeable staff can advise you on minimums, pricing, and also provide a sample. Customer service is our top-most priority and with over 17 years of experience, we are determined to provide you the best service.

Last but certainly not least, don’t forget about our elastic webbing. We are proud to offer knit and woven elastic made domestically on the East Coast! We have import lines, too. The widths of our elastic are ¼”-12” wide and several stock products exist for case quantity purchases. Custom elastics can be made and usually require a small minimum of 5,000 to 10,000 yards.  Whether you’re looking for webbing to use in the orthopedic industry, safety and military industry, for performance apparel, or for home and recreational uses, MMI Textiles is the answer.

We would love the chance to work with you and help you figure out your webbing needs in the fastest and most affordable way possible. From webbing straps to nylon webbing, call us at 440.899.8050 or email us at info@mmitextiles.com to get going with any project you have in mind.

Urban Tactical Wolf Gray

by Annie 22. July 2015 09:46

The tactile environment is always changing and evolving, and MMI Textiles, Inc. is committed to stay up to date with what is current. The new color, “wolf gray” was created within the industry to be less intimidating than black, camouflage and ranger green.

The urban tactical wolf gray is popular within the DEA, FBI, SWAT, and other law enforcement officers. Wolf gray is meant to look like wet concrete, near the color values of asphalt, reflective glass, and steel. It is adaptive for a variety of lightconditions when you want to blend in during the daytime and for concealment at night.

All of our products meet military specifications and are Berry compliant. We stock 500D and 1000D Nylon/Mil-spec, Nylon webbing in a variety of widths, Nylon sew on Hook and Loop, and raschel mesh.

To find out more about Wolf gray or purchase fabric in this color, call 440.899.8050 or email info@mmitextiles.com
