A Brief History

In September of 1997, MMI Textiles opened its doors as a manufacturer’s representative, serving 6 Midwest States and handling sales for Tape Craft Corporation, NDW Textiles, Inc. and Wirewright Mfg.  Our President and co-owner, Amy Hammond, was raised in the textile industry, working as a youngster for her father and stepmother, Jim and Karen Bircher, under National Dye Works in Lynchburg, SC.  Amy went on to get B.S in Textiles from West Virginia University in 1993.  National Dye Works closed their dyeing and finishing factory in 2000 and NDW Textiles was formed, outsourcing their manufacturing to other area dye and finish houses in the USA.

About The Company

MMI Textiles, which stands for “Me, Myself, & I” (a motto that the company lives by today – a fact that each of us will give 110% of ourselves to our customers and the integrity of the products that we sell), branched out to represent 10 states by 2001.  Around mid 2002, we started distributing a few product lines that complimented existing MMI lines, providing our customers with reliable sourcing at competitive prices.  This included some hook and loop products and labels, two of our rapidly increasing product lines due to product quality and competitive pricing.  As you can see from our website MMI has continued to add new distribution lines ever since.  Much of our rapid growth since the birth of our company (ranging from 30 to 50% a year) can be attributed to solid vendor partnerships and increased resources in all of our textile product lines.

MMI Grows

By 2003, we began sourcing finished product for our customers both domestically and off-shore, based on their needs and time demands.  This is the same time that Joe Hammond, Ph.D., Vice President and co-owner, came into the business to oversee our operations.  Joe brought with him a background in Chemical Engineering.  Since 2003, our resource base in China, India and South America has grown to over 80 factories that we work with on a continual basis through long-term partners overseeing the quality of our components in each product.  We also have several domestic factories that we work with if you require 100% domestically produced goods.

MMI: The Next Chapter

In January 2007, Jim and Karen Bircher retired so we decided to purchase NDW Textiles.  Having been a rep for NDW Textiles for 10 years, the acquisition made perfect sense and the transition has gone extremely well.  Since January 2007 MMI has increased from 4 to 10 employees and continues to grow steadily.  We now oversee the production of our own stock and custom fabrics and are proud to say that many of our fabrics are 100% domestic.  MMI Textiles Inc., dba NDW Textiles, is a strong provider in the government contract arena, proudly selling many products that are used in support of our U.S. troops and other government agencies (see our government specification section for more details).
